Equipped with traction gaining materials on the outsole, the shoe really does give wearer’s what they need in terms of speed due to the variation in the design of the outsole unit.

Editor's Pros & Cons
Pros
  • High level of energy return
  • Highly cushioned
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Toe area is a bit narrow

Outsole

The outsole of the Adidas Crazy flight X is designed from that infamous TPU rubber material and is actually a bit different in design than most of the other shoes that are out on the market right now. For starters, the shoe has a full coverage foot pad that really allows the shoe to provide the wearer with what they need in terms of traction when using the shoe on indoor floors; no one wants to slide around when playing a game of volleyball in a gym, especially if they land on their forefoot for the majority of the time, the Adidas Crazy flight X makes sure that that doesn’t happen. The rests of the sole unit is designed from that TPU rubber, but it just doesn’t show up in as much excess as it does in the design of the forefoot. The inner portion of the outsole doesn’t really have a very “different” design.

Midsole

The midsole of the shoe is honestly why it gets its name in the first place. The shoe features a midsole designed from a combination of EVA foam and Boost material which allows the shoe to really give the wearer what they need in terms of comfort. The Boost material in the shoe really allows the shoe to give the wearer what they need in terms of comfort and cushioning. The shoe also features a TPU insole as well that allows the wearer to enjoy a decent level of comfort and ensures that one doesn’t have to deal with discomfort in the heel area of the shoe. To keep in line with the material in the forefoot of the shoe, the Adidas Crazy flight X has a design that incorporates Adi tuff material into it and ensures that one doesn’t wear down that portion of the shoe prematurely.

Upper

The upper of the Adidas Crazy flight X is primarily designed from a mesh material that allows the shoe to really give the wearer what they need in regard to comfort and range of motion while the shoe is being worn. Aside from the mesh material, the shoe utilizes a Sprint Skin that gives the shoe that sleek style that is so common among shoes nowadays. There is ample cushioning throughout the design of the upper such as in the heel and side areas of the shoe; the cushioning provided by the upper in this respect really allows one to retain the level of comfort that is necessary for the wearer to really be able to function on the volleyball courts.

Weight

There is no specific weight listed for this shoe but, the design of the shoe and the reason that it was made in the first-place signals to one that it was meant for use in the heavier activities. The sole unit of the shoe does a great job at keeping the overall weight of the shoe down primarily because of the fact that it doesn’t have very many extra parts included in the design of the shoe. The upper of the shoe doesn’t have very many layers in place throughout and doesn’t have very much need for protective features primarily due to the fact that the upper of the shoe has a Sprint skin in place (Sprint skin basically means the upper of the shoe is laminated).

Breathability

Mesh is known for being breathable and the upper of the Adidas Crazy flight X has tons of it in place. The upper of the Adidas Crazy flight X’s use of mesh really gives it the flex and airflow that it will need to take command and provide for the curves of the wearer’s foot. The funny thing about the upper of the shoe is that it has a liner in place that also works to give the wearer a decent level of sweat resistance; the liner in the shoe is moisture wicking, working to keep the wearer’s foot dry while the shoe is in use.

Comfort

The use of the liner, mesh exterior, and Boost material in the sole unit of the shoe comes together to provide the wearer with what they need in terms of comfort. The mesh upper provides the wearer with comfort in a few ways; the shoe is form fitting, and it allows one to really get what they need in reference to its ability to provide the wearer with a high level of comfort while worn. The sole unit and it’s use of Boost material also allows the wearer to gain a decent level of comfort, primarily due to the fact that Boost is almost completely form fitting; the material simply conforms to the curves of the wearer’s foot without any issue and since it’s placed in the heel of the foot does so in an incredible fashion. Something to make note of is that the shoe doesn’t really fit perfectly; the shoe runs a bit long and, if that is something that doesn’t really provide you with comfort, should be taken note of.

Style

The actual design of the shoe is one that allows the wearer to gain a decent level of aesthetic appeal from the shoe itself. The cut of the shoe is slim (as it should be) which gives it the look that it belongs on the volleyball courts. The shoe doesn’t have very many colorways, which is something that takes away from the variations in clothing that can be worn with the shoe. The look of the Adidas Crazy flight X gives it the ability to be worn somewhat casually and to really give the wearer the style that they need to really go out and destroy their opponent during a game. Something else that adds to the look of the shoe is the fact that the design has a sleek laminated look that hardly fades over time; when this shoe is in use, the wearer doesn’t have to worry about a dull feel stemming from it.

Durability

The upper of the shoe and the sole unit both have a few durability components incorporated into their designs. The upper of the shoe obviously has the Sprint skin that allows the shoe to provide the wearer with a decent level of protection simply because of the fact that it laminates the upper; liquids and most impacts really shouldn’t damage the upper of the shoe very much. The sole unit of the shoe has a decent level of protection simply because of the use of the rubber and the abrasion-resistant materials in the sole unit of the shoe; the Adi Tuff material in the forefoot is abrasion resistant and shouldn’t/doesn’t scuff very easily. The Forefoot of the outsole, on the other hand, does seem to attract scuffs when in use due to the use of the abrasive rubber in that area; the material gets rather dark very easily.

Protection

The lamination provided by the Sprint skin of the upper does give the wearer a bit of protection against both liquids and scuffs; one shouldn’t really have too much to worry about in terms of liquids but, the materials ability to ward off scuffs and tearing is absolutely phenomenal. The Boost material in the sole unit provides ample support for the curves of the wearer’s foot primarily due to the materials that are in place throughout the design.

Responsiveness

The Boost in the midsole of the Adidas Crazy flight X does give the wearer what they need in term so bounce and energy return; this is only aided by the shoe’s use of TPU rubber in the forefoot of the outsole. The Boost is in place at the heel of the shoe and works to give the wearer a decent amount of bounce through its use of the beads that its designed from; the shoe simply pops up when the wearer is running or looking to pounce on the volleyball court, which results in that extra feel for the wearer of the shoe. The rubber in the outsole also works to give the wearer a fair level of energy return, simply because of the traction that is gained from this material; when one needs to make those sharp turns on the court or quick stops, the shoe does it for them.

Support

In terms of support, the shoe provides a decent level of it to the wearer. The midsole of the shoe is designed from the Boost material that allows the shoe to really provide a decent level of support for the heel of the wearer’s foot (especially since this is where the majority of the material is in place. The removable insole in the shoe also works to give the wearer what they need in terms of support simply because it conforms (quite easily) to the curves of the wearer’s foot in their entirety. The upper of the Adidas Crazyflight X doesn’t really do anything to provide the wearer with any level of support though, something that doesn’t really hold much weight in the design of the shoe itself.

Terrain

This is more of an indoor volleyball shoe, to be honest; the design of the sole unit is made for heavy use on developed, indoor volleyball courts. With that in mind, the shoe works at it’s best when used for that purpose specifically; the grip, the outsole, and the upper function to improve the user experience when they are used, in tandem on developed terrains such as courts.

Traction

The traction that the TPU rubber in the sole unit of the shoe provides is simply phenomenal; the crash pad in the forefoot of the shoe really does a great job of ensuring that the wearer has what they need when it comes to stopping power. The rest of the shoe has this material in place as well and really comes together to give the wearer what they need so that the shoe lasts and provides for the foot when in use.

Flexibility

The use of the Sprint skin in the upper of the shoe would normally work to keep the wearer’s foot in a slightly uncomfortable position; thankfully, the range of motion achieved by this shoe doesn’t suffer in the slightest. The sole unit of the shoe, thanks to the rubber material that is in place, allows the wearer to do what they need in terms of achieving a decent level of flex; the shoe also has slight indentations that run the length of the sole unit and aid in the level of movement that is achieved by the shoe.

Stability

The upper of the shoe works to give the wearer what they need to achieve a decent level of stability while the shoe is in use; the Sprint skin keeps the shoe from achieving awkward movements and, when used in tandem with lacing closure for the upper allows for a decent level of stability by the shoe.

Drop

There was no drop specified for the sole unit for this shoe but, if one were to look at it, they would be able to guess that it falls within the 6-8mm range.

Key features

• Boost cushioning
• Sprint skin upper
• TPU rubber outsole

Verdict

Overall, the design of the Adidas Crazyflight X is one to really pay attention to; it has several characteristics that allow it to do all of the things that one would need to when playing on a volleyball court. The grip of the forefoot is phenomenal and the lifespan of the upper falls within that same region. The price of the shoe is also fairly decent and, when considered alongside the functionality that the shoe provides, is something that should probably be paid a bit of attention to.
