Outsole

Asics decided to do something new with the outsole on the Asics Gel Noosa. The shoe has an outsole fashioned from AHAR rubber. The material that is on the outsole provides the wearer with amazingly high levels of traction as well as durability. The material has been patterned into a tread design which further enhances the materials ability to provide the wearer with functionality; the forefoot of the shoe has a closer woven pattern, allowing it to achieve a high level of traction while used for fast-paced events. The shoe also features Asics’s dura-sponge outsole technology; basically, the shoe has bits of blown rubber placed in the forefoot of the shoe to further enhance the grip achieved by the shoe.

Midsole

From the name of the shoe, one can tell that the midsole on the shoe is designed with gel. The shoe as various gel inserts placed in both the forefoot and the heel of it’s design. These inserts allow the shoe to provide the wearer with both a high level of comfort and responsiveness during their ride. Asics has also incorporated their Solyte midsole technology into this shoe’s design. The Solyte technology coupled with their Impact Guidance tech aids the shoe in both the areas of stability and support; both necessary features of a shoe.

Upper

The upper is, in short, amazing. The shoe has paint splatter design splashed all throughout which gives the shoe an amazing look. Besides the graphics on the upper, it also has a seamless mesh make that allows the shoe to provide the wearer with insane levels of comfort and breathability. The shoe also has a sock liner on the inside of the shoe which aids in the shoe’s ability to provide a comfortable overall feel. The elastic lacing system that the upper of the shoe was equipped with provides the wearer with an even greater sense of comfort and stability. Asics has forgone the need for physical overlays by providing the shoe with printed ones.

Weight

Asics was able to keep the design of the Gel Noosa relatively lightweight. Weighing in at a decent 9.3 oz, the shoe does it’s best to feel extremely comfortable on foot. The running shoe features a mesh upper that lacks coverings, a feature that still works to reduce the weight of the shoe. On top of this, the sole unit of the shoe and the minimal materials that were used throughout, also weigh very little; all these features come together to allow the shoe to work at a top level in events such as races and the like.

Breathability

The upper is designed from a mesh material, allowing to be extremely breathable on-foot. The level of airflow that is achieved by the shoe, as mentioned above, is due to the shoe’s use of mesh and the lack of physical overlays placed throughout. The shoe also makes use of a sock liner on the inside, which does a decent job of allowing the shoe to have a moisture wicking property, resulting in added comfort. On top of this, the material on the shoe is perforated in certain parts such as the sock liner and the midfoot, allowing the shoe to have achieved an even higher level of air-flow.

Comfort

The Gel Noosa is designed to provide the wearer of the shoe with an extreme level of comfort during use. The shoe has a decent level of cushioning splattered throughout the design; materials such as the gel inserts in the sole work to this effect. The upper of the shoe is designed from a lightweight mesh allowing the shoe to conform to the shape of the wearer’s foot rather easily. On top of this, the shoe has a seamless upper, allowing it to protect the wearer’s foot from uncomfortable situations caused by the foot’s rubbing against the seams on the inside of the shoe. The lightweight design of the shoe also works to make the shoe extremely comfortable; movements in the shoe feel very natural because of this.

Style

Okay, this shoe is stylish and very aesthetically pleasing. It comes in a plethora of vibrant colorways allowing it to provide the wearer with a variety of choices on the field. The lack of physical overlays also adds to the sleek design of the shoe overall, making it a bit more attractive. The sole unit, as well as on the parts of the shoe that are covered in mesh, is given a distinct patterning that makes the shoe very noticeable on and off the track. To make the sleek design of the shoe stand out a bit more, Asics gave the shoe relatively thin sole unit also aiding in the aesthetics of the shoe itself.

Durability

The design is one of a smaller, lightweight shoe; the thin nature of the materials used in the design of the shoe insinuate that it won’t have very much longevity. Asics made the shoe out of materials that would last after extended use n the shoe meaning that the wearer would be able to get a decent amount of wear from them. The sole unit of the shoe and the carbon rubber used, allows the sole to maintain its shape on even after various use. The midsole on the shoe maintains it’s shape and comfort after extended use as well because of their ability to withstand high levels of pressure during use. The one part of the shoe that may give the wearer a bit of trouble is the mesh upper. It lacks physical overlays and is relatively thin. This means that if the shoe is used on the more strenuous terrains such as trails, it could tear from features of that terrain.

Protection

The Gel Noosa has a design that is made with the wearer’s foot in mind. The design of the shoe is one that allows it to provide the wearer with protection and comfort during use. The upper of the shoe features a mesh make coupled with a bunion window to prevent irritation and discomfort while running. Another quality that the mesh has it that it provides the wearer with high levels of air flow, preventing sweat from accumulating inside of the shoe itself. The sole unit of the shoe features Asics Duomax support system allowing the shoe to provide the wearer with high levels of support, further enhancing the comfort levels. Aside from this, the shoe is extremely bright allowing it to be seen during the night time, which is another plus.

Responsiveness

The sole unit of the shoe is one that promotes comfort and speed during use. The midsole is designed from a Solyte material that absorbs shock with every step. This material allows the shoe to provide the wearer with high levels of responsiveness and comfort during runs. The patterning used on the outsole of the shoe enables the wearer to make quick movements with relative ease, further enhancing the level of responsiveness achieved by the shoe. The lightweight design of the upper of the shoe also aids the shoe in delivering a highly comfortable ride during use as well.

Support

The sole unit has several technologies which enhance the overall feel and work to provide the wearer with a high level of support. The shoe features Asics Duomax support system which allows the shoe to provide the wearer with stability during use and prevents the wearer from experiencing overpronation. Asics fitted the shoe with gel cushioning throughout the midsole which allows the shoe to provide the wearer with extremely high levels of comfort and works to provide support for the curves of the wearer’s foot; another feature is that the shoe prevents the wearer from experiencing extremely high levels of shock impact.

Terrain

The Gel Noosa was designed for wear on developed terrains. The shoe is meant for use on roads, tracks and the like. The lightweight materials used in the design of the shoe wouldn’t hold up very well during use on trails and the other rural terrains; they traction on the shoe would degrade rather easily and the shoe would be more likely to tear and rip from the features of the terrain. The patterning on the outsole of the shoe is designed and delivers a better overall experience on the tracks because of the close positioning that the grooves have; the wet grip design of the outsole allows it to provide the wearer with even higher levels of performance because of its ability to provide the wearer with an even higher level of grip, even on wet surfaces.

Price

Compared to other trainers, this model is a bit higher priced. The shoe features several materials that allow it to provide the wearer with an insanely high level of comfort and functionality. When the price of the shoe is considered, it is also important to pay attention to the shoe’s longevity; the materials used in the design of this shoe allows it to provide the wearer with an extremely long period of use. This means that if one were to buy this shoe (and use them for their intended purpose), they wouldn’t have to worry about replacements for a decent length of time afterward.

Traction

Asics fitted the shoe with an outsole that functions very well on a variety of terrains. The running shoe features a wet grip outsole that achieves a high level of grip on both wet and dry terrains. The level of grip achieved by the shoe is only enhanced by Asics’s use of Blown rubber throughout the design of the shoe. The blown rubber coupled with the patterning of the outsole in the forefoot of the shoe allows it to provide the wearer of the shoe with high levels of grip, especially in the high-speed events.

Flexibility

The material that makes up the design allows the shoe to achieve both a high level of comfort and flexibility during use. The midsole of the shoe and it’s Solyte foam make allows the shoe to achieve a high level of flex; the shoe also has several flex grooves placed throughout this portion that allows the shoe to achieve an even higher level of range of motion during wear. The upper of the shoe is designed from mesh materials fitted with printed overlays. The material itself is very malleable and conforms to the shape of the wearer’s foot very easily without the overlays, it does it even more so.

Stability

The Duomax system in the sole unit of the shoe allows it to provide the wearer with extremely high levels of cushioning and support. The system basically creates a dual density midsole unit that functions to cover multiple needs of the wearer’s foot. The shoe also features Asics’s IGS which works to allow the shoe to conform to the wearer’s natural gait during use. The upper of the shoe is also relatively snug, providing the wearer with a decent level of security during use.

Drop

The drop on the Gel Noosa is about 10 mm. The relatively average heel-to-toe ratio on the shoe doesn’t do very much to take away from the shoe’s ability to conform to the movements of the wearer’s foot. Aside from this, the responsive nature of the materials that make up the shoe’s design still allows it to provide the wearer with a natural feel.

Notable features

• Duomax support system
• Solyte foam midsole
• Gel inserts
• Wet grip outsole
• Sock liner

Verdict

Overall, Asics did a very nice job with the design of the Gel Noosa. The shoe has several qualities that enhance the overall feel of the shoe both on and off the track. The gel inserts in the midsole allow the shoe to conform to the shape of the wearer’s foot, while the patterning on the outsole works to deliver the wearer a high level of grip. Overall, this boldly designed shoe works wonders and if the price and a few other features of the shoe were changed, would be perfect.
